We're Hiring! Marketing and Communications Manager!

Position

The Marketing and Communications Manager (MCM) will be a strong communicator capable of telling compelling, thoughtful and inclusive stories about why people ride bikes in Denver. Studies have shown that 80% of Denver residents have a bike and 60% of them would ride more if they had safer streets to ride on. Using the stories and tips from the 10% of Denver residents who do ride often, the MCM will help convince those 60% of “ interested in riding more but are concerned mostly about safety, to ride their bike more. Using those stories and other data and resources the MCM will help convert the many people in Denver who “support” biking to become an engaged and committed BikeDenver Member Advocate.

The MCM will manage BikeDenver’s social media platforms including the website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The MCM will also create short photo and video content to distribute via social media and e-blasts and newsletters. This position will provide support to the Executive Director including drafting and distributing press releases, sponsorship and occasional talking points.

This position will also be responsible for directing and managing volunteers to stage events, appearances and community events. The successful applicant will have exceptional communication skills – both in person and through social media as well as skills in website management, marketing strategies, graphic design and excellent creative writing skills. Strong organizational skills, a sense of humor and a sense of “with-it-ness” are critical to success in this role - as is a love of what we do: getting people on bikes!

About the Job

Duties

  • Be the organization's voice for all outward and inward bound communications.
  • Help create an active and engaged member and volunteer base.
  • Make our current members feel engaged.
  • Help bring back former members
  • Keep the website content fresh.
  • Create interesting “must read” press releases and newsletters.
  • Manage our social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Be funny and informative.
  • Raise BikeDenver’s profile and membership base.
  • Create and manage a system for recruiting and tracking volunteers.
  • Manage member and volunteer database in Salesforce.

Marketing

  • Create marketing campaigns to increase membership and volunteer numbers.
  • Manage marketing programs that our key partners want to do again the following year.
  • Work with vendors to get the best marketing and promotional materials at the best price.
  • Help the Executive Director produce corporate sponsorship proposals that are successful.

Essential "Soft" Skills:

  • Know what it’s like to ride a bike in Denver’s neighborhoods.
  • Have a certain level of “with-it-ness” and be able to think-on-your-feet.  
  • Be willing to help out. BikeDenver is a small, but powerful, team of three.
  • Have a creative fun streak about you.

Essential "Technical" Skills:

  • CRM Management: Salesforce
  • Website content management: Expression Engine preferred and Wordpress too
  • Email management software: Mailchimp
  • Social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
  • Short Video production/editing skills
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Office Suite
  • Excel Proficiency

Pay Range: This is a 12-month part-time position (20-25hrs/wk), @ $20/hr.
